Rebekha Sharkie’s great dane is one great dog

Independent MP Rebekha Sharkie explains why she gets such joy from her dog Lulu – and she is spreading the love.

Lulu is 68kg of unconditional love for Mayo MP Rebekha Sharkie.

No matter what time the politician comes home from work, without fail, the great dane greets her with a wet nose – and a wagging tail.

The politician and her pooch have joined forces withThe Advertiser Foundation to create a special edition 2022 Power Pets calendar.

It will raise money for Ronald McDonald House to help sick children.

“Over the years I have been fortunate to have many dogs in my life, but no dog has had a gentler heart, nor been more loyal, than our Lulu,” Ms Sharkie says.

Balls, frisbees and sticks have never piqued Lulu’s interest – but she does travel around with her favourite teddy.

Ms Sharkie says Lulu has “superpowers” like no other when it comes to food.

“A discerning eater, Lulu is the only dog I have ever known that can pick out a single green pea,” she says.

“Peas will be found polished in the bottom of her bowl, even if she ate leftover fried rice. That must be a doggie superpower.”

Twelve of the special edition calendars will be auctioned by Marc du Plessis, who is donating his time for the cause.
