Neighbours say they heard a commotion in the street where a 40-year-old woman was killed in a suspected hit-run in Adelaide’s north overnight overnight.

One neighbour told The Advertiser said she heard “fighting” on Kincaid Rd at Elizabeth East through her bedroom window after waking up at 5am, but didn’t see anything before hearing a crash sound.

“I woke up around 5 o’clock hearing yelling and fighting … I kept hearing it, it wouldn’t stop,” she said.

“Gone back to bed, and next minute I hear this crash happen, just some breaking, just a car hitting something.

“I hear this girl screaming ‘help’ but I kept hearing other voices around, I just kept hearing people fighting.”

The neighbour said hearing someone had died was “disturbing” and she was “devastated” for the woman’s family.

“You hope that, you know, they would stop and do the right thing.”

“(The driver) should be devastated that they did this to someone.”

A Mid North woman, aged 40, sustained serious injuries just after 4.40am after a yet to be identified vehicle hit her on Kinkaid Rd, and failed to stop and render assistance.

The vehicle left the scene before police arrived.

Rebecca Varley, another local resident and trained nurse said that it was “sad” and “scary” a fatal accident could occur on her street.

“It makes you worry, especially with kids, you know, if something happens to them ... it’s pretty disappointing,” Ms Varley said.

Major crash detectives and South Australian police attended the scene, but the woman died prior to their arrival.

Major crash investigators are seeking a white, or lightly coloured SUV or 4WD vehicle and its driver to come forward to assist with investigations.

Anyone with information, or crash repairers who may have seen the vehicle, which sustained front end or left side body damage, to come forward.

The woman’s death is the 3rd on South Australian roads this year.
