Two South Aussie fan favourites returned to MasterChef this week, appearing alongside the late Jock Zonfrillo.
Renowned chefs Poh Ling Yeow and Sashi Cheliah, both from Adelaide, appeared back on our screens this week to mentor the new contestants.
Yeow kicked off the season’s first Mystery Box episode which aired on Monday night.
During the episode, Zonfrillo asked her to give contestants “a couple of secrets to success,” in-line with the season’s theme “secrets and surprises.”
“The thing that is most important is to really soak up, like, every minute that you have in this kitchen,” Yeow said.
“You will never have an opportunity to be away from all the distractions of life and be able to entirely focus on food like you are right now.
“I think if you tap into something that is totally authentic, it’s there forever.
“It’s not external, its internal. And if something doesn’t go right, you have to be ready to just shift gear. I think that’s one of the secrets for sure.”
Zonfrillo applauded Yeow for her ability to “stay true to herself.”
“The Poh that we’ve seen in season one, is still the Poh that is standing in front of us today,” he said in the episode.
Cheliah, who will also feature alongside Zonfrillo during this new MasterChef season, said their “great chats and insight about the hospitality industry” will leave a lasting memory.
“Jock was always a warrior, he never gave up on his passion and love for food” Cheliah said.
“He was always up for trying new things and encouraging young chefs to pursue their dream.”
Cheliah will kick off the seasons’ first Service Challenge, airing on Wednesday night with another former contestant, Matt Sinclair.
The duo will each mentor one of the two teams, as they race to make an impressive entree and main course dish for 30 diners.
