A young northern suburbs mother filmed herself performing sexually explicit acts with her two young children before attempting to sell the footage online, court documents allege.

On Thursday, the woman, who The Advertiser has chosen not to identify to protect the identity of the victims, faced the Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged with two counts of producing and one count of disseminating child exploitation material, knowing of its pornographic nature.

Court documents released to The Advertiser by the Elizabeth Magistrates Court allege the woman made six films – five with her two-year-old daughter and one with her four-year-old-son – between December 1 2022 and January 4 this year.

Police allege that, although the two young children were asleep during each video, the woman is naked and performing explicit acts with them.

The videos ranged from six seconds long up to a minute long in length.

In her witness statement, an agent from the Australian Federal Police said she received a report from the office of eSafety which informed her that the accused woman had “been in contact with a male who has been requesting images of sexual acts involving her children in exchange for money.”

The agent then forwarded all of the information, including the video footage and evidence of the electronic communication, to SA Police and the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team.

When the woman’s home in the northern suburbs was searched, SA Police officers seized her electronic items and arrested her.

She was granted police bail but appeared in court on Thursday asking for a variation to her bail address.

In the last year alone, detectives from the combined AFP/SA Police team JACET have arrested 88 people on child exploitation charges, investigating as many as three new cases each week.

At the start of September, the elite child-rescue team warned that advancements in cheap, affordable technology have taken the crime out of the dark web and into the mainstream.

The maximum penalty for producing or disseminating child exploitation material is 15 years imprisonment.

The woman will face the Adelaide Magistrates Court in November.
