A man is on the run and two are in custody after a sawn-off shot gun was fired during an alleged fight between two groups on a Munno Para road overnight.
About 7.45pm on Monday, police received calls regarding a disturbance between two groups of men on Stebonheath Rd – with witnesses allegedly hearing a gunshot.
One group of men was seen leaving in a vehicle, before driving towards nearby Brandis Rd.
Two men – allegedly victims involved in the disturbance – were found at the scene but were both unharmed.
Following investigations, two Smithfield Plains men were arrested and charged.
A firearm police believe was involved was recovered during a search of a Davoren Park home. It will be forensically tested.
Footage of the fight obtained by The Advertiser shows five to six people shoving and punching for about two minutes on the road before they split into two groups and leave.
Munno Para resident Salome Jyothinager said her uncle heard a big bang during the night, sending them to their CCTV.
“I did not hear anything,” Ms Jyothinager said. “It wasn’t until 10.30pm or 11pm (on Monday) when police knocked on our door did we become aware.
“But when the police came in - it turns out my uncle had heard the noise when he was in the bathroom.
“He said he heard a big noise, like a bang sound, but at the time, he didn’t know if it was a gunshot.”
This prompted them to review the footage from their CCTV where they saw the altercation.
“We could see the people fighting in the video,” Ms Jyothinager said.
On Tuesday, Tyler Jake Haywood, 21, and Andrew Paul McDonald, 44, appeared via video link in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court.
Mr Haywood, the alleged shooter, is yet to enter a plea to two counts of discharging a firearm to annoy, frighten or injure - namely a sawn-off shotgun.
Both men are yet to enter pleas to joint charges of aggravated affray and aggravated possessing a firearm without a licence.
After applications for home detention bail, Magistrate Rodney Oates ordered inquiry reports for both men - noting despite the presumption against bail, neither had been imprisoned before.
Police prosecution noted Mr Haywood had no criminal history.
Both men will return to court later this month.
Ms Jyothinager said she and her husband would keep their cameras running at all times.
“We have four cameras that we will keep switched on day and night just as an extra safety measure ... we have two young daughters under the age of 10,” she said.
Anyone with information on the incident or has any dashcam or CCTV who hasn’t yet spoken with police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000.
Police advise the incident is not random, and the men are known to each other.
