The 59-year-old Nangwarry woman is the 87th life lost on South Australian roads this year.

Motorists are urged to avoid travelling on the Riddoch Highway between Penola and Nangwarry due to road detours which will remain in place for several hours during Major Crash investigations occur.

It comes two months after a horror multi-car crash near the same spot that killed two children.

The two Eykelenburg children were travelling with their family in a grey Toyota station wagon that had braked to avoid hitting a black Holden sedan, which struck an emu.

The Toyota was then struck from behind by a white Nissan ute.
