A Morphett Vale man has charged with soliciting and possessing child abuse material, with a court told at least 35 victims have been identified.

On Tuesday, Steven Perrymeant, 39, appeared via video link from custody in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Commonwealth prosecutors asked Magistrate Simon Smart for an eight-week adjournment alleging 35 additional victims had been identified – with more charges expected to be laid.

“The brief, which is very extensive, was served two weeks ago,” prosecutors said.

Court documents allege Mr Perrymeant was soliciting child exploitation material via the internet between September 7, 2023 and September 11, 2023 in Morphett Vale.

Mr Perrymeant is charged with soliciting and knowingly being in possession of child abuse material, and failing to provide access to a computer or device as legally required during a search.

South Australia’s elite Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) arrested the man after receiving a report from the United States Homeland Security Investigations.

He could be facing a maximum of up to 15 years imprisonment for the alleged offences if the charges are proven.

Mr Perrymeant was remanded in custody until the next date in December.
