Mitcham Council resurfaces road around parked car

A council in Adelaide’s east has left residents “amused” after one neighbour missed the memo their street was being resurfaced. See the pictures.

A Mitcham resident is set to return from their holiday to a surprise, after they missed the memo to move their parked car before roadworks commenced on their street.

According to a neighbour, the locals jetted off before receiving notice that new bitumen would be laid – resulting in their Peugeot ending up on its own accidental island getaway.

“We all had to remove our cars from the road but, one person’s car was left on the road,” fellow resident, Keith Banfield explained.

“And they won’t be back for a while.”

The stationary vehicle left road workers with no choice as they were forced to lay fresh bitumen around the perimeter of the car.

The artistic flair of their work must be admired as the bitumen has created a perfect box for the four-door hatchback.

Mr Banfield labelled the situation “amusing” and with no return date of his neighbours in sight the car seems to be cemented in place for the time being.

Drivers cannot only now enjoy a smooth drive down the leafy inner-southern suburb’s street they can also marvel at the statue like installation which seamlessly ties together the old and the new.

The council has been contacted for comment.
