Man charged after pedestrian hit in Adelaide CBD as car allegedly swerves at crowd
A man has been charged over a terrifying late-night driving rampage in the CBD in which footpaths were mounted and a pedestrian struck and injured.
Police have arrested a man after a pedestrian was hit in the CBD during a dangerous late-night incident.
Officers were called to Carrington St, near Hutt St, after reports a white Mitsubishi Pajero was being driven erratically, narrowly avoiding pedestrians, just before 10.40pm on Sunday.
Police said that not long after, another caller reported the same vehicle had pulled a U-turn and driven towards a group of people, swerving, mounting a kerb, and hitting a pedestrian before speeding off.
A 36-year-old Peterhead man struck by the vehicle managed to get up and run from the area.
He was found shortly after by police and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Despite an extensive search, police were unable to locate the Pajero at the time.
Later, about 1am on Monday, police found the Pajero at a Bridge Rd, Para Hills West address, where detectives arrested the suspected driver inside the home without incident.
A Para Hills West man, 23, was charged with aggravated acts to endanger life, aggravated cause serious harm by careless use of a vehicle, and failing to stop and assist after an accident.
He was granted bail to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on February 18 and has been issued an immediate loss of licence until further notice.
The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.
