A northern suburbs man will spend Christmas behind bars on remand after fronting court for the first time accused of stabbing a 58-year-old man “multiple times” overnight – leaving him in a critical condition in hospital.
Paul Damian Shinnick, 63, appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Tuesday in front of Magistrate Karim Soetratma charged with attempted murder and cause serious harm to another with intent.
Defence counsel, for Mr Shinnick, made no application for bail.
Emergency services were called to a home on Eringa Court in Craigmore at 9.15pm on Monday night after reports of an assault.
SA Police said the victim, a 58-year-old man from the home, was allegedly stabbed multiple times to the torso.
He was taken via ambulance to hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Northern District officers quickly arrived on scene, arresting Mr Shinnick from the address
Police said both men were known to each other and the incident was not considered to be random.
Mr Shinnick was remanded in custody and will return to court in April next year.
