A young child has died after they were struck by a car at a tyre shop carpark in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on Friday morning.

A young child has died after they were struck by a car at an Edinburgh North tyre shop on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Cluse Bros Elizabeth, located on Peachey Rd, after receiving reports a Toyota station wagon had collided with a child, just after 11am.

The child, who is from the northern suburbs, died at the scene.

Shane Taylor works nearby at Cooks Trailer Hire.

He told The Advertiser he heard a woman screaming moments after the accident.

He believed she was the child’s mother.

“I was just filling up a gas bottle when I heard a woman screaming,” he said.

“The mum was on the ground, distraught.”

Mr Taylor claimed as soon as the driver hit the child, they jumped out of the car and started calling for help.

Meanwhile, MP Mechanical worker Anthony Temple – who works nearby to the Tyrepower store – said he dropped off a customer’s car only 20 minutes before the crash occurred.

“After dropping the car off, I poked my head over and the whole street was just cop cars and ambulances and flashing lights,” he said.

Meanwhile, other workers and customers rushed to give the child first aid, he said.

“I feel really bad for the owners, especially, some of them I know have just had kids,” Mr Temple said.

Peachey Rd was closed between Bradpole Rd and Hooke Rd as police and emergency services attended the scene.

The child’s death is the 35th life lost on South Australian roads this year.
