Father-of-five Bradley Schubert suddenly dies a week after 49th birthday

The beloved dad cheated death once before, surviving a major motorbike crash which left him paralysed. Now, his death just a week after his recent birthday has left his family reeling.

Father-of-five Bradley Schubert was looking forward celebrating his 50th birthday at the beach after finally getting access to funding for a beach-friendly wheelchair.

But heartbreakingly, a week after his 49th birthday he suddenly died leaving his family in shock.

“(His) love lives on in all of us,” his eldest daughter Peta-Jane Hira told The Advertiser.

Ms Hira described her father as having cheated death before after he survived a horror motorcycle crash on August 3, 2015.

“He was on a charity motorbike ride for a person he knew,” the 21-year-old said.

“It was a wet day and he underestimated the corner … and landed in the tree.

“It left him paralysed from the waist down … it would be hard for anyone, he was a 39-year-old Aussie bloke with a big ego.”

Bradley struggled after the crash with his physical health.

“Pain wise, they could never figure out where it was coming from and he got a lot of infections,” Ms Hira said.

Bradley began to feel sick following his 49th birthday.

In the morning on April 3, 2025, he called a carer to come check on him in the evening.

But when she arrived to his Naracoorte home she found him dead.

“I was home in WA putting my kids to bed and I was laying in bed with my one-year-old and my phone was going crazy,” Ms Hira said.

“I got up to check it and it was my brother and he said that dad died … I was in such disbelief, I didn’t believe him.

“I was crying.”

Ms Hira said she’d always call her father whenever she needed parenting or car advice.

“I’m going to miss the random phone calls about where to put oil in the car or what oil to even buy for the car,” she said.

“Also the obvious moments we miss out (on) is having (him) walk us down the aisle or watching our kids grow or watching (his) two youngest Beth and Ella graduate.”

Bradley always had a car in his driveway that he was fixing and was always helping people in need.

“Anything (Dad) has ever done for anyone will not be forgotten,” Ms Hira said.

Bradley Schubert was born on March 26, 1976. He died on April 3, 2025. He was 49.

He is survived by his children, Peta-Jane Hira, Reihana Collis, Kira Schubert, Beth Schubert and Ella Schubert and his grandchildren Brylie-Kaye and Rawiri.
