The husband and wife duo behind failed home builder Xtraordinary Constructions were living the high life before the company’s collapse, it can be revealed, with a Lamborghini Gallardo among a list of luxury vehicles acquired by the business before its demise.

A report on company activities and property, prepared by director Tony Xanthopoulos, values the Lamborghini at $200,000 – the priciest of four luxury vehicles owned by the company and now under the control of liquidators.

A Nissan 350Z coupe, Nissan Navara and Mercedes Benz E200 are also listed as assets of the company, but held as security by lenders NAB and Nissan Finance.

Other assets include a berth at the New Port marina at Port Adelaide and a property on Finnis St at Blakeview valued at $570,000.

With the company’s assets valued at around $1m, it means unsecured creditors are likely to face a significant shortfall on the more than $2m in unpaid debts they’re owed.

Liquidator Andrew Langshaw from DuncanPowell said all vehicles would be sold off for the benefit of creditors.

“The Lamborghini is a valuable asset of the company that is securely stored, and will be offered for sale in due course, with a view to maximising value for the benefit of the company’s creditors,” he said.

“When the time comes we anticipate strong interest from enthusiasts given that it is in mint condition, has low kilometres and service history.

“The other vehicles will also be realised in due course and we are liaising with the financiers in this regard.”

The Port Adelaide-based builder collapsed last month, leaving more than 40 incomplete projects worth a total of $17m under construction or pre-construction.

It was called in by Kite Projects to finish incomplete projects at Dock One in Port Adelaide following the collapse of Qattro builders in September 2023, and was also working on smaller developments at Woodforde, Glanville and Birkenhead.

Metricon has since taken over construction of the incomplete homes at Port Adelaide, and it is also assisting customers at Woodforde to process their insurance claims.

According to his LinkedIn profile Mr Xanthopoulos – who’s listed as one of two directors of Xtraordinary Constructions alongside wife Tara Xanthopoulos – is also a director of Adelaide Plains cattle breeding operation Two Cow Creek Wagyu.

On Monday The Advertiser revealed a series of abusive emails sent earlier this year from Mr Xanthopoulos to a customer, labelling him as a “condescending prick” and an “ass with first-world problems”.

It followed a string of complaints from customers about delays, leaks and defects at their Port Adelaide properties.

Mr Langshaw said at the time of his appointment that while the Xanthopoulos’s had attempted to restructure the business, years of rising costs and building materials shortages had proven an insurmountable challenge.

“Xtraordinary has faced increasingly challenging operating conditions that have affected the entire industry,” he said at the time.

Xtraordinary Constructions has been contacted for comment.
