Peterborough man, 43 dies after serious crash at Caltowie, in SA’s Mid North

A 43-year-old man from the state’s mid-north has died after a single car rollover north of Adelaide.

A 43-year-old Peterborough man had died at the scene of a car crash at Caltowie in the state’s mid-north on Monday morning.

Police and SA Ambulance crews were called to the single car rollover that occurred on Wilkins Highway, Caltowie, near the Caltowie-Hornsdale roads, just before 10.30am.

The driver and only occupant of the car, a 43-year-old man from Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crash investigators attended.

The Wilkins Highway was closed to all traffic in both directions, however, have since reopened with some lane restrictions in place.

It comes as South Australia Police launch a targeted week-long road safety law enforcement operation.

Operation Danger focuses on dangerous road use offences including following too close, disobeying traffic lights and dangerously changing lanes.

The State Government has released a comprehensive new Road Safety Action Plan to reduce lives lost by 50 per cent and serious injuries by 30 per cent by 2031.

Last week, two young martial arts fighters died in a horror crash in the Adelaide Hills.

On Sunday, May 4, Luke Marko, 21, a jiu-jitsu fighter, and Sami Adnan, 22, who trained in mixed martial arts, died in a car crash on Echunga Rd at Paechtown, near the Hahndorf Football Club, just after 5pm on Sunday.

The man’s death is the 30th life lost on South Australian roads in 2025.
