A man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl on a train earlier this month can be identified as Dylan Lloyd – who is already a convicted child sex offender.

Mr Lloyd, 21, appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday where a suppression order preventing the publication of his identity was revoked.

He also asked the court to release him on home detention bail to live just 300m away from a southern suburbs primary school.

Opposing bail, police prosecutor Sergeant Sally Francis told the court Lloyd had been convicted of a charge of indecent assault involving a 10-year-old girl in a gaming arcade at Marion in 2021.

She said Lloyd was a considered a “high-risk child sex offender” who allegedly approached the young girl – who was not known to him – after she took a seat towards the back of a carriage on a Seaford line train travelling from Christies Beach to Adelaide on January 11.

“She gets on the train and she walks past the defendant … he approaches her once she is seated,” she said.

She told the court Lloyd then began kissing and sexually touched the child who was frozen in fear before exiting the train at Marion train station.

“The victim describes that she froze … she was in a complete state of panic – she didn’t quite know what to do,” Sergeant Francis said.

“She makes descriptions that she was trying to get eye contact with other passengers on the train.”

She said the offending was “sustained” and occurred over a period of about 5-10 minutes.

The court heard CCTV on the train captured Lloyd kissing and putting his arm around the child, before following her “very closely” off the train at Marion Train Station.

Sergeant Francis said the alleged victim was able to get away and Lloyd returned to the train station.

The upset girl was then approached by a member of the public who alerted police, who arrested Lloyd the following day.

Sergeant Francis told the court that Lloyd had loaded cash onto his metroCARD, which he used to catch another train. She said police used those details to help identify Lloyd who was arrested the next day. At his home, she said police found clothes, a bag and shoes consistent with the CCTV.

The court heard the child had also since identified Lloyd as her alleged attacker.

Sergeant Francis also told the court Lloyd was being investigated over an unrelated sexual assault involving a 20-year-old woman he met on a dating app and that “charges are imminent”.

She said police were concerned Lloyd may have offended against others.

“We are of the belief that there could possibly be some further reported incidences out there and it’s in the public interest that his name and his image is released to encourage any further witnesses to come forward,” she said.

Defence lawyer Andrew Williams, for Lloyd, asked his client be released to live at a southern suburbs home, which was 300m from a primary school and 350m from a local park.

He said Lloyd had “complex psychological issues” including autism and could be released to live on home detention under the 24/7 watchful eye of two NDIS carers.

Magistrate Briony Kennewell refused bail citing the alleged seriousness of the offending and the protection of the victim and the community.

Lloyd will remain in custody until his next court appearance in August.
