Developers plan to build luxury villas at The Lane Vineyard in Hahndorf
A multimillion-dollar plan for 20 celeb-worthy villas – complete with “world class” spa, wellness retreat and helicopter pad – has been unveiled by a top Hills winery.

Developers have applied to build 20 luxury villas in a multimillion-dollar project at a nationally recognised Adelaide Hills winery.
The Lane Vineyard at Hahndorf will lease part of their land to Luxury Lodge Group who have applied to the SA Planning Commission to develop a series of luxury private and premium villas.
To be completed early to mid-2024, the $12.5m project, if approved, is set to include 16 private one bedroom villas and four premium two bedroom villas.
The accommodation will also include a “world class” spa and wellness retreat, exclusively available to villa guests.
The architects of the Adelaide Hills project, Intro Architecture, are also responsible for the controversial Barossa Valley hotel The Oscar which locals dubbed “the slug”.
Set to start construction mid-2023, the $65m six-star luxury hotel will be built at Seppeltsfield winery by Luxury Hotels Australia.
Chief executive of The Lane Vineyard, Jared Stringer, said they want to “maintain” the Adelaide Hills aesthetic.
“We’ve now reached a point where the council is happy with the plans … we want to maintain the aesthetic and make sure whatever is being built in the Adelaide Hills is going to be in line with that aesthetic,” Mr Stringer said.
Mr Stringer said the exclusive accommodation, fitted with a helicopter pad, is ideal for “movie stars or celebrities and singers” and “maybe the number one ranked tennis player in the world” Novak Djokovic who, as reported by The Advertiser, stayed at Mount Lofty House earlier this year.
While a price per night has not been set for The Lane luxury villas, Djokovic’s suite at Mount Lofty House started from $1899 per night.
Conversations between the winery and the luxury development company began at the end of 2019.
“They’re obviously keen to invest in South Australia and to build up our accommodation offering in particularly in wine regions,” Mr Stringer said.
“When they visited me at The Lane, I think the synergies there were pretty perfect as far as what we offer at The Lane and how this combination will not only benefit us but will benefit the Adelaide Hills.”
Anthony Gatti, senior planning advisor at Intro Architecture, said the project will provide 50 construction jobs and at least 30 ongoing jobs for the region once the accommodation is operational.
“It is destined to encourage visitors to linger longer and stay overnight in a region that has traditionally hosted day travellers,” he said.
Adelaide Hills mayor Jan-Claire Wisdom said: “The Lane winery and restaurant is a wonderful asset for tourism in the Adelaide Hills”.
“New tourist accommodation is also welcome in the area,” she said.
