South Australia recorded another 2590 Covid on Thursday, a slight rise in cases after a major spike on earlier in the week.

SA Health said four people – two men in their 50s and 80s and two women in their 50s and 70s – had died.
There were 91 people in hospital, including 11 in ICU and two on ventilators.

There are now 21,514 active cases in SA.

The new cases came after a new spike in daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.

SA Health on Wednesday recorded a second consecutive day of more than 500 new infections having been identified as three more Covid-related deaths were reported.

Two men in their 90s and a woman in her 70s are the latest infectious patients to die.

Wednesday’s 2560 cases follows 2089 on Tuesday. The number of active, or infectious patients, is also at its highest level of 20,079, for the first time in more than a month.

But the number of patients in hospital – the key indicator authorities are watching closely – continues to fall with 90 cases.

Another two extra patients have been admitted to intensive care, bringing the total to 15. Two are in induced comas on ventilators.

The Covid Ready Committee is due to meet on Thursday to discuss a fourth round of restrictions.

Separate Education Department data shows the number of students absent for Covid-related reasons, such as illness or as a close contact, has fallen. There are almost 4000 students away, the data shows, compared to more than 4150 on Tuesday.
