Alleged drink driver loses licence after crashing into tree and injuring passenger

An alleged drunk driver who blew almost three times the legal limit has walked away unscathed after slamming his car into a tree but his passenger was rushed to hospital.

An early morning joy ride in Adelaide’s western suburbs ended in chaos when an allegedly drunk driver slammed his car into a tree and injured his passenger.

When emergency crews arrived just after 2am on Saturday they found a the mangled Ford sedan against a tree trunk on Wells St in Birkenhead.

During the crash, the passenger – a 27-year-old Peterhead man – sustained head injuries and was rushed to hospital as a precautionary measure.

But the 26-year-old driver, who remarkably walked away unscathed, allegedly blew a staggering 0.122 – almost three times the legal limit – when breath-tested at the scene.

Officers reported him for aggravated driving without due care and drink driving, slapped him with an instant six-month loss of licence, and impounded his car for 28 days.
