The sudden death of Michael ‘Mick’ Caddle, a respected manager of a leading SA car repair business and a beloved member of the local football club, has left several in the Adelaide community in shock.
The 47-year old, who passed away on March 5, was a manager and qualified spray painter in Edwardstown-based family-owned business Caddle Crash Repairs, which was established by his father 54 years ago.
Several friends and community members honoured the late Mr Caddle on social media.
Popular radio host and media personality Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello posted a Facebook tribute for Mr Caddle.
He said in a statement that Mr Caddle was “a bloody good kind caring family man … always put others first, whether (sic) that was dressing up as Steve (Irwin) on a giant croc he helped me move, or marking lambs at the farm”, accompanied by a photo of Mr Caddle sitting atop a giant crocodile model dressed as Steve Irwin.
Mr Costello said that “heaven scored a good lad” and his “thoughts are with (Mr Caddle’s) girls”.
The Caddle family were also major sponsors for several football clubs, including the Blackwood Football Club.
The club paid tribute, saying for 49 years the business was a “pillar of support for our club, their dedication and generosity shaping generations of players and supporters”.
In a statement, the club said Mr Caddle’s “kindness, passion, and unwavering support embodied everything we hold dear” and that “heaven has gained another one of our legends”.
Edwardstown Football Club also posted a tribute in his honour, saying the family were “long-term supporters of our club” and that “his generosity and commitment will never be forgotten.”
Users had also left comments in condolences, with one saying Mr Caddle was “a wonderful, caring, sympathetic, funny, gentle man, one of a kind” and “would go the extra mile”.
Another said “Such a great and funny guy. Kept everyone laughing, always good for a laugh. RIP Mick”.
Mr Caddle is survived by his wife Kelly, daughters Harper and Violet, as well as his parents, Barry and Maria, siblings Brenton, Natalie, Geoff and Lee.
His funeral service will be held on March 21 at 2pm at the Norwood Football Club.
