A previously approved multimillion-dollar residential estate in Adelaide’s inner west has been redesigned to include more residential dwellings.
Not-for-profit organisation Adelaide Workers’ Homes received council approval in November 2016 to build a 219-dwelling, mixed-residential property estate at Richmond, about 2km out of the CBD.
Initially, the project intended to build seven, two- to three-storey buildings, with 219 dwellings.
Under proposed new plans lodged to West Torrens Council, four of the seven buildings have been reworked but will still be located on the same 19,500 sqm site between Ellen St, Davenport Tce and Milner Rd.
The development, dubbed the Bill Johnson Estate, would now boast 242 dwellings once completed – 23 extra homes than under old plans.
Two existing buildings would be demolished to make way for the four buildings, a carparking, fencing and landscaping.
All of the buildings would be three levels with 27 one-bedroom dwellings and six two-bedroom dwellings.
Each home features open-plan living spaces with a kitchen, dining and living area,
and private balconies.
Outside, residents would have access to landscaped communal areas including a barbecue and grass areas, seating spots, spacious walkways, alongside 221 car spaces, including four accessible spots and 44 bicycle parking spaces.
The project will come together across four stage.
The estate is located within a short distance of several retail and service facility, including Hilton Shopping Centre.
Public consultation closes on July 24.
Founded in 1898 by prominent South Australia Sir Thomas Elder, Adelaide Workers’ Homes now own and operate more than 340 properties in metropolitan Adelaide – with more than a third offered at 25 per cent below market rental value to eligible applicants.
The developers were contacted for comment.
