HOBART has experienced its first glimpse of the upcoming winter this morning, waking up to an icy blast across the area.
The Tasmanian capital hit a chilly low of 7.7C at 6.49am, before rising to a slightly warmer 10.8C by 10.30am.
Snow has dusted the top of kunanyi/Mt Wellington as a sign of colder days ahead.
The temperature at the top of the mountain climbed slowly to -1C this morning after plummeting to -2.1C at 5.38am.
With 52km/h west to south-westerly winds, the apparent temperature on top of the mountain feels like a freezing -13C.
Other south east areas around Hobart still sitting below 10C include 7.3C at Grove, 8.1C at Tasman Island, 8.2C at Cape Bruny and 9.9C at Dennes Point.
Campania has just reached 10C.
Hobart can expect a top of 13C today, with showers and westerly winds predicted to reach 35 to 50km/h in the morning.
