Severe heatwave warning issued for North Queensland regions
North Queensland faces another scorching weekend as forecasters warn of warm temperatures with little overnight relief for residents. DETAILS
Another heatwave warning has been issued for North Queensland, with hot temperatures predicted over the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology advised that maximum temperatures are forecast to climb into the low thirties to low forties across the region.
Townsville is expected to reach 33 degrees on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, before a shower or two is expected on Tuesday.
Severe heatwave conditions are already impacting Cape York Peninsula and are expected to continue there over the coming days.
Forecasters warn the current heatwave will see conditions expand to other parts of northern Queensland over the weekend with areas impacted including Kowanyama, Townsville, and Weipa.
Over the North Tropical Coasts, the Tablelands, and the Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts, maximum temperatures are expected in the high twenties to mid-thirties.
Overnight minimums will offer little relief, remaining in the high teens to mid-twenties, making it difficult for residents to cool down.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects the heat to continue before conditions finally begin to ease early next week.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to take precautions, stay hydrated, and monitor vulnerable individuals.
A total fire ban has also been issued for areas including the Burdekin, with fire condition are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.
The ban is in place from October 31 and is expected to be in place until November 13 in the Burdekin Shire, Northern Peninsula Area, Torres Shire and Torres Strait Island Local Government Areas.
