Owners of a beachside favourite in southern Tasmania are planning to bring a “reinvigorated” space to their restaurant and beer garden, just 11 months after opening major renovations.

The Salty Dog Hotel in Kingston Beach has advertised its planned redevelopment for the popular eatery, with co-owner Adriano Mignanelli hoping to build on the cult status of the venue.

A new takeaway kiosk will be one stage of the redevelopment in early 2024, while a new cafe and diner will give versatile indoor/outdoor dining overlooking Kingston Beach.

The popular beer garden will also be remodelled, with additional all-weather areas, kids activity area, dog refreshment zones and outdoor table tennis tables part of a new look.

Upgraded carparking facilities and function rooms will complement the redevelopment.

“The owners are absolutely thrilled to have the rare opportunity to improve on such an important landmark in the area while protecting and enhancing the heritage aesthetic of the building,” Mr Mignanelli said.

“The Salty Dog Hotel has, over the decades, become synonymous with the Kingston Beach precinct, and this redevelopment aims to deliver a sympathetic re-imagining of the venue that will stand it in good stead for years to come.”

Together with architects and builders Field Labs and Soda Projects, the owners hope to get the redevelopment under way by early 2024 with construction planned for completion in spring of the same year.

“The redevelopment will provide the right medium through which we can give back to the community, which is one of our central business goals,” Mr Mignanelli said.

“Together with grassroots sponsorship of local schools and sporting clubs, the venue will be in a position to host regular large scale fundraising events for charitable foundations, including the Make a Wish Foundation, which will hold a major fundraising event in our garden on February 17.”

Regular patrons can be sure of no delays to service – the business focused on remaining open throughout the redesign.

“This will be an exciting new face for Salty Dog and we hope this will help the community to make our place a regular,” Mr Mignanelli said.
