A cuddly duo are looking for their forever home, after being in the care of RSPCA Townsville for the last month.

Six-year-old bonded pair Ryobi and Makita were given to the organisation after their elderly owner was no longer able to take care of them.

The RSPCA have said the duo are the perfect cats to adopt as they launch their latest fundraiser, with sponsors committing to doubling every donation to their Give To Get Them Home Appeal given on October 3 for one day only.

Last year, more than 2000 Queenslanders contributed to the appeal, and this year, the organisation’s goal is to raise $700,000.

Hoping to help more than 1000 surrendered, homeless and abused animals find a safe new home, statistics from RSPCA Queensland show a year-on-year increase in animal surrenders and a decrease in adoption applications.

Chief Veterinary Officer at RSPCA Queensland Dr Anne Chester said due to inflation and the cost of living impacting households, they have seen pet owners choosing to surrender due to not being able to afford to look after them or have suitable housing.

She also said the cost of living crisis meant the RSPCA was also affected by costs.

“Simple things like medication, electricity and rescue vehicle costs rising means we need to raise more funds to continue to care for animals that need our help,” she said.

“We rely on the generosity of our community to provide the essential care and lifesaving treatment these animals require- every contribution, no matter the size, matters.”
