A man has been winched to safety and is lucky to be alive after falling 80 metres down a Far North waterfall.

An adult man fell off Davies Creek Falls just before 4pm on Friday afternoon leaving him with significant injuries to his arm and minor injuries to his head.

It is understood the man did not fall into the water.

Flight data revealed the rescue helicopter waited at the location for roughly 40 minutes while a team of four Queensland Fire Department crews and paramedics helped secure and rescue the man.

A Queensland Ambulance Spokesman said the man was later transported to Cairns Hospital.

“The call was reported as someone had fell from a height,” he said.

“A rescue helicopter was sent and they winched him out.”

The popular swimming and hiking destination is roughly an hour and 15 minutes west of Cairns, sitting just outside Mareeba.

In 2017, a man was found floating face down at the bottom of the waterfall after falling down the attraction.
