A man is being assessed after a harrowing ordeal for patrons and staff at a popular shopping centre this weekend.
The man, a 72-year-old from Warwick, is currently being assessed by staff in hospital after a terrifying incident at technology retailer Harvey Norman.
It is understood that on Monday afternoon, the 72-year-old entered the store after ordering what is understood to be a mattress and being “very unhappy with it”.
A Warwick police officer alleged the man entered the store with a knife and made threats of self-harm and what police will also allege were “indirect threats” to staff.
It is alleged the man had a knife to his wrist and slashed at property, damaging it.
A local officer confirmed the man had mental health history.
Police took the man to Warwick Hospital where he is still understood to be assessed.
The man did not threaten any police officers, the police source confirmed.
Police deployed tasers in order to subdue the man as it’s alleged he would not drop the knife.
No charges have been laid as police await a mental health assessment.
