An octogenarian facing almost a dozen alleged historic child sex offences will have a lengthy wait for his matter to reappear as new information comes to light in court.
The man, aged in his late 80s who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared for the first time in person in Warwick Magistrates Court on November 27.
The man is accused of historic sex offences including nine total charges of indecent treatment of children under 16, under 12 as a descendant, guardian or carer (lineal), and two charges of indecent treatment of children under 16 (lineal).
He has not entered a plea to any charges before the court.
It is understood the alleged offences are historic, occurring in the early 1990s when the man would have approximately been in his late 50s.
The man is understood to be a figure within the Warwick and surrounds sporting scene.
At his last mention, defence lawyer Clare Hine told magistrate Janice Crawford the defence was trying to “organise cognitive testing” for the man before “we go down that road”.
Ms Hine, appearing with the man who seemed quite confused on Wednesday, said in court the defence had found a psychologist to organise testing for the man.
“He has had one appointment and will need multiple more appointments, quite a lengthy adjournment is needed,” Ms Hine said.
Magistrate Crawford enlarged the man’s bail and adjourned the matter.
The man’s case will next be heard on March 13, 2025.
