An interstate truck driver based in Toowoomba has fronted court for “appalling” and “absolutely disgraceful” behaviour involving a council worker and an ex-partner.

The 36-year-old father of five, Jamie Lee Hands, pleaded guilty to threatening to distribute intimate images and videos as a domestic violence offence before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 12.

The former towing truck driver also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the direction of police, and assaulting a council worker who was handing out parking tickets in Toowoomba City on October 13.

The court heard the separate incidents were concerning and bizarre given the “hard working” man’s lack of criminal history.

Police prosecutor Nicholas Pratt said Hands sent a raft of threatening emails to the woman in March 2024.

He said Hands sent the emails after his former partner warned him that she would go to police if he continued to contact her.

The court heard multiple times, Hands threatened to share 376 personal files which he had kept from a former relationship.

He wrote to the woman, who had since moved on, calling her pathetic, and detailed how he would first share the content with her new partner, her mother next, and then the public.

“Have fun being famous,” an email read.

Mr Pratt said the behaviour was “peculiar” given Hands hadn’t been before a court since 2013, and submitted the “very concerning” behaviour warranted his supervison within the community, especially given he also assaulted a man in the street.

The court heard Hands assaulted the Toowoomba Regional Council worker who was doing his job on October 13, 2024.

Hands’ had been asked to move his motorbike from a no-stop area before abusing the worker and pushing him backward.

When police took up with Hands, he then abused the officers and said he was stopping the worker from ‘harassing’ elderly residents by imposing parking infringement notices.

The court heard Hands, who planned to move to Meandarra on the Western Downs, was medicated for PTSD, anxiety, and depression, however he was not seeking counselling.

Acting Magistrate Robert Turra told Hands the domestic violence offending was “absolutely disgraceful,” and the court and community would not stand for that type of abuse.

He said the assault of the council worker who was performing his duties was “appalling behaviour,” and the courts would rightly protect the community from “the likes of” him.

Mr Turra agreed with prosecution the offending was unsual for Hands who ordinarily was a contributing member of society before, “bang-bang,” two “odd offences”.

He told Hands he could expect a jail term if he had similar prior convictions, before sentencing him to a 12 month probation order to ensure he received supervision and support.

Hands was also fined $300.

Convictions were recorded.
