Toowoomba police have called on motorists to slow down and drive with care after they nabbed a man travelling at a fatal speed through the CBD.
The 41-year-old Meringandan West man was fined $1854 for speeding at 110km/h in a 60km/h speed zone on a motorcycle, North Toowoomba.
Highway patrol officers saw the motorcyclist speeding along Ruthven St shortly before 7.30pm while they were conducting proactive patrols on January 5.
They pulled the driver over and he reportedly said he had no idea he was travelling at that speed.
The ticket comes just five days after the close of 2024, which was one of the most deadly years on record on Queensland roads.
Sadly, 303 people died with 77 of those fatalities being motorcyclists.
The fatal five, including speeding, continue to be leading causes of fatal crashes.
Toowoomba Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Kim Hill urged motorists to slow down to help prevent more tragedies in 2025.
“Each life lost is one too many, travelling at excessive speeds is inexcusable and has been proven to risk your life and the lives of those around you,” Senior Sergeant Hill said.
“We will continue to do everything we can to improve road safety and encourage motorists to join us in making road safety a key priority.
“It’s important to remember that you aren’t invincible, and accidents can happen to anyone. Whenever you get behind the wheel, consider the fatal five and make it home safe.”
