A child feared bitten by a venomous brown snake at a North Queensland childcare centre has been released from hospital.

Queensland Ambulance Service rushed the two-year-old to Bowen Hospital after a reported encounter with a 40-centimetre brown snake at the Kidz at the Beach nursery on Tracey Street in Bowen on Tuesday afternoon.

Initial reports from the scene were that the snake was found crawling over the child, with fears the child sustained suspected puncture wounds to a hand.

The infant was then transferred Mackay Base Hospital, which is larger and better equipped.

Mackay Hospital and Health Service confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the child had been released from hospital.

It remains unclear as to wether the child had been bitten or if the transfer was precautionary in nature.

Kidz at the Beach declined to comment on Tuesday.
