Father of three Scott Carpenter killed in Gap Creek Moto crash

The wife of a motorcyclist who died after a horror motocross track tragedy says she is grateful her husband died doing something he loved so much as an appeal is launched to help the family.

Tributes have flowed for a motorcyclist who tragically died at a popular motocross track, with a fundraiser launched to help support his family.

Scott Carpenter was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash at Gap Creek at Tregony before noon on Saturday, September 14, after the 52-year-old reportedly suffered life-threatening chest injuries coming off a bike.

Paramedics and police rushed to the scene, and a rescue helicopter was called while paramedics conducted CPR however sadly, he could not be saved and died at the scene. 

In a fundraiser launched in the days after the tragedy, the man’s wife Roseanne paid tribute.

“Scott and I were married for 20 years and had three beautiful children, who are now without their dad after he was tragically killed aged 52 in a motorbike accident,” the GoFundMe stated.

“We are grateful that Scotty died doing something he loved so much.”

The tribute said funds raised would go towards helping support Mr Carpenter’s three children.

The popular biking venue has said they are “absolutely shattered” after a horror fatal incident at the Southern Downs track last weekend.

Gap Creek Moto is a privately owned dirt bike and camping facility, west of Cunningham’s Gap in the Southern Downs.

The business posted to Facebook on Tuesday and said they were “absolutely shattered and navigating this the best we can”.

Gap Creek Moto will be closed until “further notice” in wake of the tragic crash.

“The mental and emotional wellbeing of the family and friends and all those affected, our staff, customers, and wider moto community are our number one priority at this time,” Gap Creek Moto said.

“We would like to thank our staff, customers, the medical professionals, police, Motorcycling Australia and our family and friends that have offered support.

“Thank you for your understanding and respecting the decision.”

Gap Creek Moto was contacted Wednesday morning and was unable to provide further comment.

The sprawling 650 acre facility includes two senior, two junior and one mixed moto tracks along with about 20 km of enduro trails.

It is understood Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit investigations into the matter are ongoing.
