Eastern Suburbs Rugby League to make triumphant return for 2025 season

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes a beloved Warwick football club is planning a triumphant return after only having announced a collapse due to financial difficulties back in August. Find out how the club managed to turn things around here.

A beloved Warwick junior rugby league club has managed to turn their run of bad luck around, having formed a new committee determined to bring it back to life.

It was only back in August when Eastern Suburbs Rugby League took to Facebook to make the heartbreaking announcement the club had found itself in a pool of debt and could no longer operate without a benefactor. 

“After meeting with (Southern Downs Regional) Council and discussing the likelihood of our club. It has been decided that without a benefactor the club will close permanently,” the club wrote on social media.

Club president Darren Hart said it was an overwhelming wave of support from the community that has stopped the club from its imminent closure.

Mr Hart said many of the club’s life members had come out in support and were eager to help get things back up and running.

“We’ve put a call out for (junior league) coaches and have already had a couple of people come forward, but we’re still needing a few more,” he said.

The club will begin the 2025 season running under-6 to under-12 junior sides and is set to open player registrations in the new year.

Mr Hart said it’s small steps for the club who are hopeful for a full recovery, with a number of junior players having already expressed their interest to return in next year's season.
