Police have charged a woman after she allegedly assaulted a six-year-old girl outside a school south of Brisbane

Police have charged a woman after she allegedly assaulted a six-year-old girl outside a school south of Brisbane on Monday.

Police have alleged around 8.50am, a 35-year-old woman assaulted a six-year-old girl who was known to her, outside an educational facility.

Police confirmed the six-year-old girl had scratches to her neck and arm and was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The 35-year-old Kingston woman was taken into custody and charged with four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (Domestic Violence offence) against a child.

She is scheduled to appear at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

An email sent from the school to parents on Tuesday said a security guard would be on site at for the day.

“This measure is being implemented out of an abundance of caution to ensure the good working order of our school,” the email said.

The email said the safety and wellbeing of students and the school community was the school’s “highest priority”.

“While I appreciate your desire to understand the specifics of this matter, I am sure you would understand that I am unable to go into specific details for privacy reasons,” the email said.

“I would like to acknowledge the difficult and unsettling circumstances that our school community may face as a result of this matter.”

The school confirmed it had a guidance officer available for support to all students.

A department of education spokeswoman said it was committed to providing safe, secure and supportive environments for all students, staff and the wider school community.

“The department is aware of an incident this week,” the spokeswoman said.

“As a precaution, security officers will be onsite to help reduce the likelihood of any anti-social behaviour.”

The spokeswoman said parents and carers were informed of the situation via a letter sent home on Monday.
