Woman, 21, charged after allegedly speeding through border at Tweed Heads

A 21-year-old Ipswich woman who crashed after allegedly speeding across the Queensland border on the Gold Coast has been charged, issued a $4000 fine and faces two weeks in hotel quarantine.

An Ipswich woman is facing multiple charges, a hefty fine and 14 days in hotel quarantine after allegedly speeding through border checkpoints on the Gold Coast and crashing minutes later.

Police say the woman, 21, was driving a Ford Territory with no number plates near Tweed Heads on Saturday morning when NSW police attempted to stop her.

They gave chase but terminated the pursuit at the border around 11.20am.

She allegedly sped through the police checkpoint on the M1 before losing control of her vehicle and colliding with a Subaru near a KFC outlet at Elanora around 11.30am.

Police say the woman is facing multiple charges as well as a $4035 fine for breaching border rules.

The woman is also expected to be ordered into hotel quarantine for 14 days.

Police say no one was hurt in the crash.

Late on Saturday, police said the woman had been issued with a court notice on charges of unlicensed and unregistered driving and driving without due care and attention.

She has also been fined $4135 for failing to comply with border directions and been placed in hotel quarantine for 14 days.

Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said the woman could face further charges in NSW once she had completed quarantine.
