Electric shock at Victoria Point workplace leaves man fighting for life

A man in his 40s is fighting for life in hospital after sustaining “multiple significant burns” from an electric shock at a workplace east of Brisbane.

A man is fighting for life in hospital after an electric shock at a workplace in Victoria Point late Thursday night.

Paramedics, including the High Acuity Response Unit, attended a location on Cleveland Redland Bay Road about 11.22pm following reports of an electrocution

It is understood the incident occurred at a roadworks site and that Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating.

A man in his 40s was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a life-threatening condition with “multiple significant burns”, according to QAS.

“Upgrade works” were planned at the intersection of Cleveland Redland Bay Road and Clay Gully Road between October 17 and October 21, according to QldTraffic.

“Work activities will occur throughout the intersection,” the QldTraffic website states.

“The traffic signals will be switched off and Queensland Police Service will direct traffic through the intersection to enable safe completion of the works.

“Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.”
