The “disgusting and un-Australian” mess left at an inner-city public park barbecue has been slammed by hundreds of community member after a photo surfaced online.

A Holland Park local shared the picture to social media after visiting Glindemann Park Logan Road, Holland Park on Monday morning.

“If you’re heading to (the park) you might want to bring cleaning supplies,” the man said.

“What the hell was going on here last night?”

The photo showed a public bin less than 10m from the barbecue.

“Maybe those near empty bins were just too far away … Grubs,” the man posted.

The image prompted more than 100 comments from equally concerned members of the community.

“This seems almost un-Australian,” said one Brisbane resident.

“It’s very disappointing to see, cleaning up after yourself is simple,” said another.

One resident said that the Council provides the facilities and pays to upkeep the barbecues.

“In return the public should be helping to keep it clean, especially when you are the user,” she said.

A Brisbane mother said she has refused to eat from public barbecues for 20 years.

“I have seen dead animals, all sorts of rubbish, spit, snot, dog poo, human poo and urine everywhere etc, scorched into those things by d--k heads who frequent parks late at night,” she said.

A Brisbane City Council spokesman said the mess left behind on this public barbecue was disgraceful.

“People should know better than to leave a shared space dirty and surrounded by rubbish,” the spokesman said.

“There are barbecues in more than 420 parks across our suburbs and we expect people to respect these free facilities and leave them clean and tidy so everyone can enjoy them.”
