A man has been crushed to death and his stepson injured after a wall collapsed on them at an inner-Brisbane construction site.

Kimura Dixon, 45, was killed on his first day working at the construction site in West End.

His stepson Rama, 19, was trapped under concrete for more than an hour as six workers and police worked to lift concrete off his body.

He was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with chest and leg injuries.

Mr Dixon was a father of eight and grandfather of four.

His daughter Rheign Reedy-Dixon said: “All we can think about was how excited he would’ve been to be able to be at work to provide for the household.

“Our dad was the most caring and amazing father ever, his love for us kids was beyond words.

“He would’ve done anything if it meant he could come home to us.

“He filled rooms with laughter and especially love.

“I hope he wasn’t scared and didn’t suffer, I just wish we all could’ve said goodbye.”

Mr Dixon’s partner Katarina Bell posted on social media: “Kimura you are the absolute love of my life, I have no idea how I’m going to handle this new chapter without you? It was meant to be, me ’n’ you, old and crusty in our treasures.

“When you kissed me goodbye today I didn’t think it would be the last kiss I’d ever get from you. I wish I hugged you a little bit longer before you left.”

Ms Bell also expressed her gratitude that her son wasn’t seriously injured.

Police Inspector Christopher Pemberton said Rama was trapped under concrete for 75 minutes.

“He was left in situ due to the complexity of the entrapment,” Insp Pemerton said.

“It’s a tragic thing to happen so close to Christmas.”

Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Elly Rienks said eight paramedic units attended.

The incident happened at the site of a social housing development expected to deliver 56 residential units across eight levels. It comes after 15-year-old worker Beau Bradford was killed at a construction site at Surfers Paradise on Monday when he was struck by a large object that fell from the boom of a concrete pump truck.

The CFMEU said it was shocked and saddened by the two fatalities. “Nothing is more important than worker safety,” a spokesman said.
