Police are investigating after a teenage boy, riding a bicycle, was left fighting for his life after a crash with a young motorcyclist on the Sunshine Coast.
About 3.15pm Tuesday, January 14, emergency services were called to Bowen Rd near the Cooinda Road intersection at Glass House Mountains following a crash between a motorbike and bicycle.
The bicycle rider suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a Brisbane hospital.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it appeared a motorbike had collided with a bicycle leaving two people seriously injured.
A teenage boy had suffered a life-threatening head injury, she said.
The ambulance spokeswoman said a man in his 20s was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with a potentially life-threatening head injury.
He remains there in a stable condition.
The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew flew the teenage boy to hospital.
The rescue helicopter was tasked at 3.23pm and landed in a paddock near the incident.
The LifeFlight critical care doctor worked with QAS paramedics to stabilise the patient who was riding the bicycle.
He was treated for severe head injuries and flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Police have since reopened Bowen Rd between Crittenden Rd and Steve Irwin Way in both directions.
The road was closed for some time on Tuesday following the crash.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are underway.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information, dashcam footage or CCTV is urged to contact police.
Meanwhile, Wednesday morning the Queensland Fire Department was responding to reports of a hiker stuck at the Glass House Mountains.
A QFD spokesman said they were called to the rescue at 7.12am, at Barrs Rd, Glass House Mountains.
He said SES were already on scene, that three crews were on their way, and police were involved.
