A woman who crashed into the car of a Queensland MP while affected by an intoxicating substance has pleaded guilty before making a quick exit from court in a change of outfit.
Rani Paige Lowry on Monday pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to then-Greens MP Amy MacMahon in Kangaroo Point in February 2024 while adversely affected.
Lowry, 26, was driving southbound along Main St at Kangaroo Point about 6.30pm on February 12 when she ran a red light as Dr MacMahon was turning right out of Baines Rd.
Lowry’s Hyundai i30 collided with Dr MacMahon’s Toyota Prius in a confronting crash caught on CCTV.
Dr MacMahon was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital where she remained for a number of weeks.
She later revealed she had suffered a carotid dissection in her neck but there were no fractures, no broken bones, and no open wounds
Dr MacMahon has expressed gratitude that she was not more seriously injured. She lost her seat of South Brisbane at the October state election.
Police had earlier alleged Lowry ran a red light and slammed into Dr MacMahon’s car and had been travelling more than 20kmh over the speed limit with a passenger asking her to slow down.
Lowry walked into Brisbane’s District Court this morning in a brown jacket, black top and black shades. When she emerged in front of a waiting media pack she was wearing a black jacket, white striped top and some chic pink sunglasses.
She declined to comment. Lowry will be sentence next month and remains on bail
