Medicinal cannabis use has steadily increased across Australia since its legislation and Queensland is leading the way in revolutionising the industry.
Brisbane-based company Medcan has pioneered a tech set-up that is one of the most advanced in the southern hemisphere.
CEO Craig Cochran says the company is all about producing the highest quality medicinal cannabis possible.
“In order to achieve that, it is vital that we have an environment that we can accurately control and consistently replicate,” he said.
Medcan, which uses the PRIVA software system in its 3,000sq m vertical farm alongside a state-of-the-art HVAC system, is also a full-service operation that cultivates, manufactures, imports, exports, wholesales and distributes medical cannabis in Australia.
Head of cultivation Nate Jones said there were very few systems out there that can handle the dehumidification load required when growing plants indoors.
“Medcan designed a HVAC system that ensures we are able to keep the temperature at an ideal 25 degrees celsius with an optimal humidity level of 55 per cent.”
Mr Jones described the PRIVA system, which the company uses, as a “massive software system that uses algorithmic logic to calculate the environment and acquires feedback from hundreds of probes and different measuring equipment across the plant”.
With PRIVA, the company can produce up to 6000 kgs of dried cannabis flower per year.
