South East Queensland has shivered through another freezing morning, with subzero temperatures recorded across parts of the state.

The coldest temperatures were felt across the Darling Downs, Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett regions.

Kingaroy dropped to -1.5C just before 7am, but felt more like -3.3C at 2.30am.

Oakey and Warwick both dipped to -1.4C, with Oakey’s apparent temperature plunging to -5.3C at 6am.

Warwick felt slightly warmer, hitting a “feels like” low of -3.6C at 6.30am.

Wellcamp, Applethorpe and Dalby also recorded subzero temperatures.

In the greater Brisbane region, Canungra had a chilly night, hitting a high of just 3.0C at midnight before dropping to 0.1C shortly after 6am.

The apparent temperature fell even further, feeling more like -1.8C at 7am.

Amberley dipped to 0.3C, but felt more like -2.7C at 4.30am.

Brisbane dropped to 7.8C at 6.45am, but felt more like 6.0C at 5.30am.

Redcliffe recorded 7.7C at 4am, with a “feels like” temperature of 5.8C at 2am.

The Gold Coast fared slightly better, dipping to 9.8C at 5.30am, but feeling more like 7.0C, while Sunshine Coast Airport dropped to 5.0C at 4am, with a “feels like” low of 2.4C.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman has confirmed warmer conditions are on the way, with above-average minimums expected to return to parts of eastern Queensland from Thursday.

“A trough and cold front passed to the south over New South Wales on Monday, with fresh westerly winds bringing a colder air mass over much of Queensland,” she said.

“This cold air combined with high pressure ridging, producing clear skies and calmer winds, giving us another cool night, but generally not as cold as Monday.

“Many places were 3C to 6C degrees below average with this morning’s minimum temperatures, and Gatton has once again seen their coldest morning of the year at 0.8C.”
