A former Bundaberg music teacher who moved to South Australia in search of new opportunities has now been missing for almost three months.

Michael Curnow, 23, previously taught piano to students at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Bundaberg before relocating to Adelaide earlier this year.

He shared a heartfelt farewell message on social media in March, writing:

“And so, this marks the end of my time in Bundaberg. What a beautiful chapter of my life that I will miss deeply. Grateful for this incredible journey and the amazing people who have shared it with me. Each of you has played a part in encouraging me along the way, and I carry your kindness and memories in my heart as I step into the next adventure. Thank you, Bundaberg, for everything.”

After his move, Michael continued performing music in Adelaide and sharing updates through his Music with Michael Facebook page.

In a post 18 weeks ago, he showed off a recent performance at The Original Pancake Kitchen, responding to a comment from a Bundaberg local by saying:

“Hi Kylie! All is going well down in Adelaide! Finding lots of opportunity which is exactly what I was hoping for! Thanks Kylie and hope Maisie is keeping up with the piano practice!”

Michael had also celebrated releasing his first original song on streaming platforms including Spotify and YouTube.

“Proud moment! My first ever release on Spotify, Apple Music, and heaps of other music streaming platforms. YEAH! Can’t wait to create and upload more!” he wrote.

But Michael has not been heard from since April 24.

He was last seen at Hillcrest in Adelaide about 9am that day, and his black Hyundai station wagon was found in the early hours of April 25 on South Para Road at Chain of Ponds — a rural area northeast of the city.

Police have since released dashcam footage showing a man matching Michael’s description walking along Forreston Road, near Kersbrook, about 10.30am on April 25.

Michael is described as caucasian, about 185cm tall, of slim build with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a light brown jumper and pants, and it is believed he may have a black Trek mountain bike with him.

Authorities say they hold serious concerns for his welfare and are appealing to anyone who may have dashcam, helmet or CCTV footage from the area to come forward.

Anyone who sees Michael or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444, quoting reference 109794.
