A man is fighting for life following a horror five-car crash on the Gateway Motorway north of Brisbane.

The incident occurred in the northbound lanes at the Depot Rd exit at Deagon just before 3pm.

A man in his 20s was trapped in his vehicle with life-threatening head and leg injuries following the collision. Five other men were also assessed for minor injuries.

Queensland Fire Department officers had to remove a door from the man’s vehicle to get him out.

He freed just before 3.30pm and was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Police crews have closed the northbound lane adjacent to the Depot Road off ramp, sparking 20 minute delays.

“Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible,” a QAS spokeswoman said.
