Labor Party awards Annastacia Palaszczuk life membership for transforming Queensland
Annastacia Palaszczuk has been honoured with life membership after transforming Labor from just seven MPs to government and becoming Queensland's longest-serving female Premier.
Annastacia Palaszcuk has been awarded life membership of the Labor Party.
Cheered on by her parents and veteran Labor members Henry and Lorelle, the former Premier accepted the honour of a lifetime of service before hundreds of members at the 2025 ALP conference in Brisbane.
Federal Speaker and Member for Oxley Milton Dick, a close friend of Ms Palaszcuk, regaled her achievements as Queensland’s 39th Premier and the state’s longest serving female leader.
“We remember the dark days of 2012 when Jeff Seeney, remember him, said, you’re going to be in Opposition a long time, and after only three years in Opposition, you returned our party to government from just seven members of parliament,” Mr Dick said.
“This moment also saw Annastacia become the first woman to become a state Premier from Opposition, and in 2017 you made another first, becoming the first woman to be re-elected as Premier and appointed Australia’s first majority women cabinet.”
Mr Dick commended the Palaszcuk government for “transforming Queensland into a renewable energy powerhouse, decriminalising abortion, legalising voluntary assisted dying, overhauling of domestic violence practices and securing the 2032 Olympics”.
He also congratulated the former Premier for leading the state through the Covid pandemic.
Ms Palaszcuk served as Premier between 2015 and 2023.
She has been a member of the Labor party for 40 years.
“We know you’re just getting started,” Mr Dick said.
“Congratulations on a lifetime of service to the great Australian Labor Party. ”Let’s give it up for a great daughter of our movement.“
