A former LNP candidate who was charged earlier this year with grooming has fronted court again on fresh charges.

Brock Alexander, 27, represented himself at Brisbane Arrest Court on Friday afternoon for fresh drink-driving charges.

Police allege the former LNP candidate drove over the middle alcohol limit in a car without a prescribed interlock device in the early hours on September 19 at Gympie Arterial Road, Carseldine.

Alexander had been briefly selected as the LNP candidate for the Deagon Ward during the 2023 local government elections, but was disendorsed 11 days later.

The party alleged he had failed to disclose things from his past – which Alexander denied.

Alexander explained to the court on Friday afternoon that he had shown up late to the drink-driving mention because he had had to appear at a Brisbane Magistrates Court mention that morning for separate charges from January.

Those charges include two counts of possessing child exploitation material and unlawful stalking, along with one count of using a carriage service to groom a person under 16.

Alexander said he had requested those charges be transferred to the mental health callover in December.

He told the court he wished to plead guilty to the driving charges, but prosecutor Luke Besse said the case would require a longer timeslot for a plea.

Mr Besse explained the matter would be complicated by the fact Alexander had been on a suspended sentence at the time for contravening an order for access to electronic devices.

Alexander had been sentenced for that charge in May to nine months jail, suspended for 18 months, he said.

Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne advised Alexander he may be at risk of going into custody, and that he should not be representing himself under the circumstances.

He adjourned the case for further mention on December 12 and enlarged Alexander’s bail.

Alexander’s fresh charges include one count each of driving over the middle alcohol limit but not over the high alcohol limit, and driving a motor vehicle other than as allowed under an interlock condition (vehicle not fitted with prescribed interlock).
