A senior member of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party charged with attempted fraud has had his case mentioned in court for the first time.
Alexander Jones, who holds the position of the party’s national executive treasurer, was charged in December following raids on his home and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation office in Eagle Farm.
The 22-year-old national executive treasurer for the party, has been charged with three counts of uttering forged documents and one count each of attempted fraud and forgery.
According to court documents, Jones allegedly attempted to dishonestly induce the Electoral Commission of Queensland to deliver funding to Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party between August 23, 2020 and September 16, 2020.
Jones is also charged with forging a document namely an email on September 15, 2020.
He is also charged with three counts of uttering forged documents. Police allege he twice uttered a forged Queensland Electoral Commission document and a forged email on September 15 2020.
Detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group began investigating Jones in January of 2021 following a referral from the electoral commission.
Jones’ lawyer Danny Eid sought an adjournment on behalf of his client, who did not appear in court, to seek a copy of an interview conducted with police.
Mr Eid said he needed to “clarify some instructions”.
“At the moment I don’t have a record of the interview he conducted with police,” Mr Eid said.
Magistrate Robbie Davies said he would grant Jones bail.
“Mr Eid your client is simply on a notice to appear and he has been excused from appearing today at your request but the court wishes that he goes on bail – it is a serious charge and persons on that offence should be on bail,” Mr Davies said.
