Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is ramping up Labor's election cash splash, announcing a $259m funding boost for a spate of infrastructure projects across Queensland communities and the housing sector.
Mr Albanese is set to unveil more funding in North Queensland and Mount Isa on Wednesday, before taking his pre-election roadshow to the Northern Territory.
A total of $101m will be injected into the Housing Support program, while $159m will be split across 25 projects under the Growing Regions Program.
Successful projects included the Cairns Community and Multicultural Centre ($4m), Cannonvale Community Facility ($14.8m), Eromanga Natural History Museum Dinosaur Galleries ($14.8m) a new council administration and community hub for Wujal Wujal ($7.5m) and the Roma Pool Revitalisation ($9.5m).
Mr Albanese said the regional infrastructure projects were “invaluable”.
“This funding will build and upgrade key facilities that can be enjoyed by communities for years to come,” he said.
Meanwhile, the $101m housing infrastructure funding boost is promised to help fast-track the construction of 4,800 new homes through the government’s Housing Support Program through ten infrastructure investments including roads, sewage, and water projects.
Key projects include $35.5m for Kinross Road Estate infrastructure, $18.8m for waterworks in Balamba, and $10.1m for transport upgrades in Narangba.
Remote communities are also set to benefit, with $9.9m allocated for 32 serviced lots in Seisia and $1.8m for Mornington Island housing.
Mr Albanese said the initiative supported Queensland in achieving his national goal of delivering 1.2m homes by 2030.
Queensland has set a target of building one million homes by 2046.
Projects that received additional funding, the government says, went through a competitive assessment process.
