Explosion heard in fire in Depot Hill, Rockhampton

A fire which could have been started from a common item in a garage has sparked a house fire which forced residents to evacuate. DETAILS

Firefighters have put out a Depot Hill house fire believed to have been sparked by a jerry can this morning.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said a fire investigator would check over the Rockhampton house fire, which crews had under control by about 7.30am after receiving a call at 7.15am.

It is understood people inside the home evacuated to the backyard.

There was a report of the sound of an explosion inside the garage.

The spokeswoman said the fire was initially believed to have been started by a battery.

Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Police Service are still with firefighters outside the home.
