Distressed woman taken to hospital as fire destroys Mount Morgan home

Seven fire crews worked together to put out a house fire in the Rockhampton region, with a young woman attending hospital.

A house fire on Dee St, Mount Morgan on Tuesday, June 3 at 9pm gutted the home.

A young woman has been released from Mount Morgan Hospital after a fire partially burnt out her Dee St home overnight.

The fire occurred at 9.06pm and took seven fire crews to extinguish it.

Local resident Robin Ward said the person who occupied the home had only moved in a couple of weeks ago.

“I heard someone yelling in the street, came out and a police car pulled up,” he said.

“Firies turned up not long after.

“It (the house), was well alight when I got out.”

It took seven fire crews to extinguish a house fire on Dee St in Mount Morgan on June 3.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said seven crews, made up of Queensland Fire and Rescue and Queensland Rural Fire Service personnel, arrived by 9.15pm.

“Part of the house structure was heavily involved in fire,” the Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said.

Fire crews left the scene just after midnight.

A house on Dee St, Mount Morgan, was well engulfed.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a female occupant was taken to hospital by private means, reportedly experiencing emotional distress.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the 23-year-old female resident, who was home alone at the time, was taken to Mount Morgan Hospital with minor injuries and investigations are ongoing.
