Dramatic footage has captured the moment an ambulance collided with another car at a busy intersection on the Sunshine Coast, causing it to flip several times.

Posted to Dash Cam Owners Australia’s Facebook page, the video dated August 21 shows the blue Chery Omoda passing through a major intersection in Maroochydore with a green light when an ambulance comes racing at it from the left.

The critical care ambulance could be seen with its emergency lights flashing as it collides with the other vehicle, which then proceeded to flip on its roof, spinning several times before coming to a stop in the left lane.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said the 71-year-old Buderim man who was driving the Chery Omoda was injured while the 33-year-old woman driving the ambulance was unharmed.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the 71-year-old sustained minor neck injuries and was later taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The Courier-Mail understands the ambulance was the lead car of two paramedic vehicles travelling together to a code one emergency for someone in cardiac arrest.

When the first car clipped the vehicle travelling through the intersection, the ambulance behind radioed through advising them to continue on to help the person in cardiac arrest.

The senior paramedic in the second car remained on scene to help the person involved in the crash.

After only being online for two hours on Wednesday night, the video accumulated more than 250k views, 2.7k likes and a thousand comments which were largely focused on debating who was at fault.

“Sadly in the eyes of the law it’s the blue cars fault,” one commenter said.

“Ambo got there fast,” another posted.

Many were in agreeance that the ambulance was at fault due to the greenery blocking any view of the vehicle or its flashing lights.

“Man!! Ambos should have taken more care and gone a bit slower in that intersection. So dangerous,” one person posted.

“Absolutely no way that car would have seen the ambulance”

“The ambos are in the wrong,” another echoed.

However, there were others quick to point out the law in which vehicles must give way to emergency services.

“Considering it was a critical care paramedic they were trying to get somewhere to help someone in dire need. Couldn’t the blue car hear the sirens and consider slowing down a bit and taking in their surroundings,” a commenter said.

“Oh man. That’s just so unlucky, would have looked completely clear to them (ambulance).”

Police said they were still investigating the crash, with the 71-year-old assisting police with their investigations.
